Tasmanian ICT company Anderson Morgan wins $100m US deal

A TASMANIAN ICT company has secured a $100 million contract to install wi-fi internet systems in 400 sites across the US.

A TASMANIAN ICT company has secured a $100 million contract to install wi-fi internet systems in 400 sites across the US.

ICT company Anderson Morgan, which has offices in Hobart, Launceston, Ulverstone and Brisbane, has secured a five-year contract with a multi-billion-dollar, public-listed company to roll out “intelligent public wi-fi solutions” for a range of applications across North America.

The contract will mean an extra 10 jobs for the company this year alone and highlights the ability of local ICT companies to work from Tasmania on global projects.

It comes as another local company, TasmaNet, has signed a memorandum of understanding with high-definition video international giant DivEx.

Anderson Morgan, founded in Devonport in 1999, is also in discussions about contracts in Asia and hopes to secure new business in Canada and the US.

Under the $100 million contract, Anderson Morgan will provide hi-tech, secure and custom wi-fi solutions to the sites across North America, including recreational vehicle sites, camp grounds and small suburbs.

Anderson Morgan chief Bjarke Porsbro-Pedersen told the Mercury his company had built a strong reputation on the back of partnerships with leading technology providers.

The company set up free wi-fi services in eight locations on Tasmania’s East Coast last year, including the St Helens Wharf precinct.

“We use leading edge technology, but we make the site relevant to the users of the particular site,” he said.

TasICT executive officer Dean Winter said the new deal highlighted the success of the burgeoning ICT sector.

“Anderson Morgan is just another Tasmanian ICT business making its mark on the world stage,” he said yesterday.

“It is exporting Tasmanian ideas, expertise and talent to the world.

“ICT is the fastest growing sector in the state economy.

“We have added more jobs than any other sector and we’re helping traditional sectors become more competitive and grow.”

Mr Porsbro-Pedersen said the company had partnered with a US company for the roll out across North America.

He said Tasmania was the perfect place to establish specialised ICT services.
