Tasmanian excluded from Kylie Minogue ‘Tension’ tour schedule

Tasmania has been left off the list of destinations for Kylie Minogue’s upcoming ‘Tension’ tour, and the state’s Deputy Premier says if we had a stadium, it might not be the case.

Tasmania has been overlooked as a stop on Kylie Minogue’s upcoming ‘Tension’ tour, something the state’s Deputy Premier says would not be the case if Tasmania had a stadium.

Kylie is set to perform across the country, starting in Perth on February 15, before beading to Adelaide for a show, Melbourne for two shows, Brisbane for one performance, and finishing up the Australian leg by hitting the stage in Sydney twice.

The Padam Padam singer will then head to Asia and the UK.

But notably missing from the list of Australian destinations is Tasmania.

Kylie superfan, Britt Aylen has watched the her idol perform live four times, including on the Golden Tour in 2019, the 2012 Anti Tour, the On a Night Like This tour in 2001 and the Mushroom 25 concert in 1998.

“The first album I ever bought was the Kylie Minogue Greatest Hits album,” Ms Aylen said.

She said she wished Kylie would add Tasmania to the list of concert destinations.

“We’ve had some big artists here in the past ten years: Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Elton John. They’ve all come to Tassie,” Ms Aylen said.

“Maybe Kylie needs to show more love to her home country.

“It’s frustrating how every time an exciting artist like Kylie comes to Australia I have to factor in the cost of flights and accommodation on top of the tickets, which are already becoming so expensive these days.”

Deputy Premier Michael Ferguson said infrastructure like the proposed Macquarie Point stadium could attract big names to the state.

“I wish it were possible we could build that stadium in time for the tour,” he said on Friday.

“I think it does demonstrate the importance of having venues that can attract these events.

“Unlike some of the other really big names, the Kylie tour is going to multiple cities across the country.

“Tassie mises out again that’s, I think, why we need to have the infrastructure in place that we can attract these big acts.

“I’ve got no doubt that if we had that infrastructure, the venue would absolutely have incredible ticket sales to justify Tasmania being added to the tour.”
