Tasmania has cleaned up in the Australian section of the World Whiskies Awards.

Hellyers Road, Hobart Whisky, Lark, Sullivans Cove, Transportation Whisky, and Transportation and Killara have all left the ceremony with awards.

“This is a huge achievement for Tasmanian whisky producers,” Tasmanian Whisky and Spirits Association president Kristy Lark-Booth said.

“Winning ‘best in Australia’ in these categories is a testament to the craftsmanship, innovation, and passion of our distilleries.

“It shines a global spotlight on Tasmania as a leader in the whisky industry.

“We are excited to see what the future holds for our distilleries, and we couldn’t be prouder of what our talented producers have achieved.”

Hellyers Road Distillery CEO Derek Charge was proud of his team’s award win.

“Winning Best Australian Single Malt with Hellyers Road 21-Year-Old Peated Cask Finish is an incredible achievement,” Mr Charge said.

“This award reaffirms the dedication that goes into every bottle we produce. It’s an honour to see our exceptional whiskies recognised on the world stage once again.”

Head distiller Fiona Coutts spoke about the unique character of the whisky that made it stand out.

“The Hellyers Road 21-Year-Old Peated Cask Finish 20F05c01 is a true testament to the quality of the peated whiskies crafted at Hellyers Road, and is made all the more remarkable by our maritime bond stores, a mere stone’s throw from the tumult of Bass Strait,” she said.

“The interplay of sweet smoke, maritime salinity, coastal botanicals, and the rich, layered complexity makes this whisky stand out, and we’re thrilled to see it celebrated with this prestigious award.”

Rocky Caccavo from Hobart Distillery was also happy with the success of his business at the World Whiskies Awards.

“We are thrilled to be one of the six Tasmanian producers to have won Australia’s Best,” Mr Caccavo said.

“We congratulate all the other distilleries and are proud to celebrate the success of Tasmanian whisky.

“Since 2019, our Winter Feast releases have been a big part of what we do, and we love the opportunity to push boundaries and find something unique.”
