Tasmanian band Luca Brasi to headline Last Drinks show for Uni Bar send-off

With the Tasmanian live music community rocked by the loss of popular venue Uni Bar, its final send-off show series will feature one of the state’s local legends. Who will play in Last Drinks.

The beloved Uni Bar is hosting a series of shows to give the long-running venue the send-off it deserves, with local legends Luca Brasi set to come off hiatus to play a special gig.

The Sandy Bay watering hole will close its doors for good in June after the University of Tasmania informed the licensee, Vandemonian, that it would not be renewing the lease.

Over its nearly 50-year history, the Uni Bar has hosted internationally celebrated acts such as Faith No More, Public Enemy, Cold Chisel, the Divinyls, and Paul Kelly.

Vandemonian’s Last Drinks series will give punters one last opportunity to enjoy the venue, with a sold-out performance by Peking Duk pencilled in for May 24.

Alt-rock quartet Luca Brasi, hailing from St Helens, has now been added to the line-up, while Sydney drill rap outfit ONEFOUR, Melbourne rockers Kisschasy, and indie act Old Mervs will also appear across the run of shows.

Vandemonian operations manager Luke Schlenner said he expected the Last Drinks gigs to be “a special celebration of the legacy of the Uni Bar”.

“Having a great local Tassie act like Luca Brasi being able to send off the venue is something really special to us,” he said.

Kisschasy will perform with special guests Sly Withers and Suzi on Friday, June 20, while ONEFOUR will play on Saturday, June 21.

Luca Brasi, supported by Dvrkworld, Glass Media, and Ema, will take the stage on Friday, June 27, before Old Mervs are in the spotlight on Saturday, June 28.
