Brand new images have been released by the AFL of what a city stadium would look like, as Gill McLachlan confirms Tassie’s dream team is “close”.

The AFL and Tasmania’s State Government today confirmed an in-principle agreement on a Tasmanian AFL team and league boss Gillon McLachlan says an announcement is close without putting a time frame on it.

McLachlan said the only piece of the puzzle remaining is finances for the proposed $750m closed-roof stadium at Macquarie Point.

A Mercury poll asking readers if they supported an AFL stadium at Mac Point attracted nearly 700 votes in four hours — 428 readers voted yes (64%), with 243 (36%) voting no.
