Tasmania Police wind up search for missing Flinders Island man James Hugh McLean

Tasmanian police have wound up air and ground searches for a 76-year-old bushwalker missing for two months.

TASMANIAN police have wound up air and ground searches for 76-year-old bushwalker James Hugh McLean, who has been missing in the state’s Southwest wilderness since mid-November.

The Flinders Island man was last seen November 13 when he signed on to the Huon Track walk in the Tahune area.

He had planned to walk to Melaleuca and return by December 13.

He did not reach his food drop in Melaleuca and was reported missing on December 14, sparking an extensive search.

“While missing persons cases are never closed and police will act on any new information

provided, all active air and land searches have now concluded,” police said in a statement today.

“The Coroner has been notified and police have been in regular contact with Mr

McLean’s family to inform them of the situation.”
