Tasmania Police, Tasmania Fire Service and Ambulance Tasmania attend crash near Dover

One man was declared dead at the scene while another is helping police with their inquiries.

A 59-year-old male from the Huon Valley has died following a two vehicle collision on Huon

Highway, Dover.

The crash happened around 5.15pm, Monday evening, when a southbound Toyota Aurion collided head-on with a northbound Fiat Motorhome in the southbound lane of the Huon Hwy, about 2.5km north of Dover.

Residents nearby and passing motorists came to the assistance of both drivers.

Police, Ambulance Tasmania, Tasmania Fire Service and SES personnel arrived quickly at the scene.

The rescue helicopter was activated but was stood down a short time later.

The driver of the Toyota was declared dead at the crash scene.

The driver of the Motorhome, a 66-year-old German national was treated at the scene by

paramedics and was transported to RHH with minor injuries.

The driver is assisting police with their inquiries. Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

Forensic Services and Crash Investigation Services personnel attended the scene and

conducted an investigation. Investigations into factors contributing to the crash are continuing.

Alcohol or drugs are not considered to be contributing factors in the crash.

Police were on scene for six hours last night investigating.

EARLIER: A MAN from Geeveston has died following a crash on the Huon Highway, near Dover, shortly after 5pm on Monday.

The 69-year-old was driving a Toyota Camry when it collided with an oncoming campervan. He was the sole occupant of the car.

The man driving the campervan received non-life threatening injuries.

Tasmania Police, Ambulance and Tasmania Fire Service attended the crash.

Police confirmed the crash was a fatality at 8.15pm.

Crash investigators remained at the scene on Monday night and the highway was closed in both directions.
