SHE found more than two million dollars of drugs during her illustrious career, but it’s time for Flicka, Tasmania’s police dog, to hang up her harness.
The nine-year-old will officially retire today after seven years of distinguished service.
A special ceremony is being held in her honour, with Commissioner of Police Darren Hine presenting her with a certificate of service.
Flicka has performed about 1400 drug searches in her career, sniffing out narcotics in mail, baggage, vehicles, buildings and trucks across the state.
Dog Handlers’ Unit Sergeant Iain Shepherd said Flicka had been a star performer during her career and loved her work.
“She’s done everything that could be expected of her during her career and now it’s time for some well-earned rest,” he said.
Flicka will spend her retirement as a pet for her handler, Constable Anne-Marie Bennett, continuing the strong bond they forged at work.
