Police are calling for public help as they investigate the death of a 76-year-old woman whose body was found in a submerged car off a southern Tasmanian wharf.

Police are calling for public help as they investigate the death of a 76-year-old woman whose body was found in a submerged car off a southern Tasmanian wharf.

The woman was the driver of a silver Toyota Avalon sedan, 2000 model, which was found submerged off Dover Wharf on Thursday.

Tasmania Police Sergeant Andrew Fogarty said the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.

“While the death is not being treated as suspicious, police are working to establish the circumstances leading up to the vehicle becoming submerged off the wharf,” he said.

Police are asking people who may have seen the vehicle in the Dover area between Wednesday and Thursday to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
