Two charged over $60k stolen property haul
April 5, 4:30pm: Power tools, electrical equipment, jewellery and copper wire were seized by police in a mammoth stolen property haul, recovered on Thursday.
Police searched a home in Longford yesterday, as part of a targeted operation, recovering $60,000 worth of property, believed to be stolen.
“A 32-year-old Longford man has been charged with multiple offences including aggravated burglary, burglary, stealing, and unlawful possession of property,” a Tasmania Police spokeperson said,
“He was bailed to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on May 15.
“A 31-year-old Longford woman has been charged with multiple offences including receiving stolen property, being in possession of stolen property, and aggravated burglary.
“She was detained to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court today.”

Small digger bucket falls off trailer and hits three vehicles
Updated 9am: The incident has been cleared.
April 4, 8.20am: A small digger bucket has reportedly fallen off a trailer on the Huon Hwy about 3km south of Kingston.
Emergency services are on the scene after three vehicles were struck by the digger bucket.
Police say there are no injuries however the incident has closed on lane of traffic for the next hour while the scene is cleared.
Motorists have been asked to seek an alternative route or expect delays.
Young man to face court after alleged police chase in CBD
Updated: A teenager, who was allegedly found with a homemade firearm when he was arrested at Hobart’s Elizabeth St Mall, is also accused of carrying ammunition for the weapon, at the time he was apprehended.
It’s alleged the 19 year old man from Miandatta, stole an item from a clothing store, sparking the search for him about 3:30pm.
A short time later, the man was located by police, which is when authorities allegedly found the firearm, along with cannabis and stolen items.
“It’s made by a collection of items. It’s still required to undertake forensic testing,” Tasmania Police Inspector John Toohey said.
“The firearm was in several parts. It’s unknown if it is capable of being fired.”
It’s also alleged the man was carrying ammunition at the time he was found.
“The firearm, the intention was to hold a point 22 caliber round and he was [allegedly] in possession of that round,” Inspector Toohey said.
“Any firearm in our community is something we don’t want.
“They’re not a common occurrence, we do come across them.
“We want them off our street, they’re not only dangerous to the community but dangerous to the people making them.
A permanent amnesty is in place to allow those in possession of homemade firearms to turn the items in, without consequence.
The man has been charged with stealing, unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm in a public place.
The man was due to appear in court on Wednesday.
10.46am:Police allegedly chased a young man suspected of stealing items from a Hobart business on foot in the CBD.
Officers say the incident occurred yesterday afternoon with the 19-year-old Miandetta man quickly arrested at the scene.
Police allege the man was found to be in possession of the stolen items in addition to a homemade firearm and cannabis.
The man has been charged with multiple offences and is expected before the Hobart Magistrates Court today.
Inspector John Toohey said Tasmania Police remained committed to protecting the community and local businesses by detecting and preventing anti-social and criminal behaviour.
Allegations teen was armed with baseball bat during robbery
10.30am: Police have charged a 17-year-old boy with armed robbery after allegedly being armed with a baseball bat when he threatened a person in their home.
Officers say the incident happened at Moonah in February.
They believe the teenager threatened a person while armed with a baseball bat before stealing $4,850 worth of property.
Nobody was reported physically injured.
Police say the teen was arrested yesterday and charged with armed robbery, aggravated burglary, stealing and computer related fraud.
He was reportedly detained to appear in the Youth Justice Division of the Hobart Magistrates Court today.
Teenager accused of crime spree including computer related fraud
9.30am: A 17-year-old teenager has been charged having been suspected of a crime spree across multiple suburbs over the past week.
Police say the teen was arrested yesterday and was charged with 30 offences.
They allege the crimes were committed in New Norfolk, Bridgewater, Moonah and New Town over the past week.
The charges include aggravated burglary, stealing, computer related fraud, trespass and multiple breaches of bail.
Police say the teen was detained to appear in the Hobart Youth Justice Court today.
No serious injuries reported after vehicle rolls over
9.24am: The crash is now clear.
April 3, 8.45am: Emergency services are on the scene of a single vehicle rollover in Sunderland St, Moonah.
Police say no serious injuries have been reported.
The road is temporarily blocked near the Hopkins St end while the scene is cleared.
Teen accused of assaulting bus driver, threatening chemist staff
3.45pm: A 17-year-old teenager has been charged over an alleged attempted armed robbery in Hobart today.
Police have accused the teen of also assaulting a Metro bus driver in West Moonah prior to allegedly threatening a staff member with scissors at a North Hobart chemist in a failed attempt to steal cash from the til.
He was also charged with motor vehicle stealing in relation to an unrelated matter and has been detained to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court, Youth Justice Division this evening.
Detective Inspector David Gill said the community deserved to feel safe at home, out in public and in their workplace.
“We will continue to target anti-social and criminal behaviour and where appropriate, necessary and authorised by law, we will be charging those who offend, and putting them before a Magistrate,” Detective Inspector Gill said.
In an unrelated matter, a 26-year-old Clarendon Vale man is also facing multiple charges.
Police say the young man was caught following a targeted police operation in the Clarendon Vale and Howrah areas.
They alleged he was driving a stolen Ford Ranger while disqualified before allegedly evading police on Monday afternoon.
Police said the man was found and arrested a short time later in Salacia Ave, Howrah.
He faces multiple charges including motor vehicle stealing, stealing, evading police, disqualified driving and breach of bail.
The man was detained in custody to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court this evening.
Single vehicle crashes on Southern Outlet
2.50pm: Emergency services are responding to a minor crash involving a single car on the Southern Outlet, Mount Nelson in the Kingston bound lanes.
Officers say minor injuries have been reported with the vehicle also sustaining minor damage.
One lane approaching to Mount Nelson has been closed while police deal with the incident.
Traffic is currently congested as a result.
Teen allegedly threatens chemist staff with pair of scissors
10.20am: Chemist staff at a North Hobart store have been left shaken after allegedly being threatened with a pair of scissors during an attempted robbery.
Police say a 17-year-old teenager has been taken into custody after a quick response by Hobart Uniform officers caught him within 20 minutes.
Police were alerted to the situation shortly after 9.20am this morning.
Officers said the teen entered the chemist carrying a pair of scissors and threatened staff.
They said he tried to pry open the cash register before fleeing the store empty-handed.
Police confirmed staff weren’t physically injured by the incident.
Investigations of the scene continue with Hobart detectives expected to interview the teenager later today.
Young man charged with arson after fire destroys unit
Updated April 2, 8am:An 18-year-old man has been charged with police suspecting him of setting fire to a unit in Surada Place, Glenorchy on Monday afternoon.
Emergency services responded to the fire around 1.40pm and arrived to the unit well ablaze.
Officers say the fire was contained before spreading to nearby units.
The young man has been charged with one count of arson and is set to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Police say the fire caused roughly $300,000 of damage.
2pm: One truck has arrived at a structure fire at Glenorchy, with two more trucks to follow.
Reportedly a unit was alight when crews from Glenorchy, Hobart and Bridgewater arrived to Surada Place.
Smoke from the blaze can be seen billowing into the air from MyState Arena.
Police confirm man died following two vehicle crash on highway
Updated 2.23pm: Traffic diversion have been cleared at the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash on the Bass Highway at Exton.
The road is now open to all traffic in both directions on the highway between Westbury and Deloraine.
Police earlier confirmed a man had died as a result of this morning’s crash.
Updated 1pm: Sadly a man involved in a two vehicle crash on the Bass Highway at Exton this morning has died.
The stretch of highway remains closed with diversions in place for motorists while emergency services respond to the incident.
Police say a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Initial 8am: A serious motor vehicle crash is being attended to by emergency services on the Bass Highway, Exton.
Police say serious injuries have been reported.
The section of highway will be shut for some time with traffic diversion in place at Deloraine and Westbury.
All motorists are advised to expect some delays while emergency services deal with the matter.
Two vehicle crash on the Tasman Peninsula
Updated 2.30pm: The crash scene on Fulham Rd, Dunalley is now clear with all traffic flowing freely.
No serious injuries were reported.
Earlier, 11.15am: Emergency services remain at the head one crash involving a ute and car, which has blocked one lane on Fulham Rd, just outside of Dunalley.
10.45am: Emergency services have responded to a two vehicle crash on Fulham Rd, 200m west of Dunalley.
No serious injuries have been reported.
One lane of traffic is flowing slowly with traffic being managed while the incident is cleared.
Firefighters work to extinguish burning unit in Blackmans Bay
9.05am: Emergency services look to have contained a unit fire at Blackmans Bay.
While police say no injuries were reported, an ambulance was sighted leaving the scene.
Three large fire trucks and a two smaller fire vehicles attended the incident. Police are also on the scene.
April 1, 8.30am: Fire crews have rushed to the scene of a unit fire at Nano Drive, Blackmans Bay.
Crews from Kingston and Hobart are attending, and officers say the structure was well alight upon arrival.
Police say no injuries have been reported.
TFS respond to shed fire at Lutana
March 31, 1.50pm: Firefighters are battling a structure blaze at a boat jetty on Gepp Parade, Lutana.
The structure is believed to be a boat shed, which is sending plumes of smoke over the area.
Tasmania Police have closed traffic between Lampton Ave and Howard Rd while Tasmania Fire Service fight the blaze.
There is no threat to the general public, with TFS urging the public to stay away from the immediate area.
