Stricken motorcyclist receives treatment after crash with car

Emergency services are responding to a crash between a car and a motorcycle on Meander Valley Rd, Deloraine.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Meander Valley and Emu Bay roads, and police say the road is blocked and traffic on the eastern side of the bridge is back up to Deloraine.

It is understood the vehicle, a Mazda protege, that struck the motorcyclist was being driven by a Japanese backpacker.

A bollard at the side of the road has been uprooted from the asphalt.

There are three paramedic, two police and an SES unit on the scene.

Police have advised motorists to avoid the area and to take an alternative route if possible.

No life threatening injuries have been reported at this stage.

Man in custody after firearms incident seriously injures woman

A man has been taken into custody following a late night firearms incident at a property in the state’s North.

A Tasmania Police spokesperson said emergency services responded to reports a firearm had been discharged at a Ravenswood property in Castlemain Road about 11.55pm on Thursday.

Officers said a woman sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries during the incident and was taken to the Launceston General Hospital.

Police took the man into custody a short time later at another Ravenswood residence, and say he is assisting officers with their inquiries.

Police confirmed it was an isolated and targeted incident, and that the people involved were known to each other.

A greater police presence in Ravenswood is expected on Friday as part of ongoing investigations.

“There is no threat to the wider community,” police said.

Bowen Bridge delays expected after multiple vehicle crash

UPDATED: Traffic has returned to normal after police report an earlier multi-vehicle crash has been cleared just before 4pm on Friday.

No serious injuries were reported.

INITIAL: have been asked to avoid Bowen Bridge after a multiple vehicle crash.

Emergency services are on the scene of the crash at Risdon, which was reported on Thursday at 3.15pm.

Police say motorists should use an alternative route, or anticipate delays until the scene is cleared.

No injuries have been reported at this stage.

Man arrested after firearms, drug related paraphernalia found during search, police say

A 49-year-old man was charged with firearm and drug offences following a police search at Brighton on Wednesday.

Officers reportedly conducted a search of a residence and surrounding area at around 3pm and say firearms, ammunition and drug related paraphernalia were found.

Police said several firearms and parts, including long arms and a pistol, were recovered and investigations would continue into their origin.

Police arrested the man at the search location without incident.

The man is expected to appear in court on Thursday.

Man loses licence after allegedly blowing more than four times the limit

A driver, who allegedly blew more than four times the limit, was lucky not to cause a serious crash, police say.

Officers reportedly intercepted the 27-year-old on Terrylands Street, Burnie at midnight and say the man returned a breath analysis reading of 0.201.

Inspector Adrian Shadbolt said the Waratah man had been charged and had his licence immediately suspended.

“It was very fortunate this did not result in a serious crash,” Inspector Shadbolt said.

“We’ve had lives lost on Tasmanian roads in recent days, and with the holidays upon us I urge all drivers to pause and think before you get behind the wheel.

“The safety of yourself, your family and other road users needs to be at the forefront of your decisions.”

He said to expect police to actively target driving offences statewide over the coming days and weeks.

Anyone who witnesses concerning driving behaviour on the road is urged to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers.

Crash involving car and pedestrian near highway

Emergency services are responding to a crash involving a car and pedestrian near the East Derwent Highway, Lindisfarne.

Police reported the incident on Tuesday about 3.24pm and have asked motorists to avoid the area where possible.

Traffic is being diverted down Ballawinnie Road, police say.

They also said no serious injuries had been reported at this stage.

Investigations into single vehicle crash at Pipers River

A car crash which flipped several times and left two people with non-life-threatening injuries will be investigated, Tasmania Police say.

The incident occurred on Bridport Road at Pipers River about 5.15pm on Monday.

Officers believe the driver of a grey Mitsubishi Triton failed to negotiate a right-hand bend while travelling west near Snares Road.

Police say the car left the roadway, flipped a number of times before coming to rest in trees.

Police confirmed two of the three occupants were taken to the Launceston General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigations continue to determine the cause of the crash.

Anyone who may have seen the crash or have dashcam vision has been asked to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers.

With the arrival of the busy festive season, police have also issued a plea for motorists to take care on the roads.

They said to keep the fatal five in mind while driving – speeding, seatbelts, alcohol/drugs, distraction/inattention and fatigue.

Three charged over Sheffield burglary

Police have charged three people over a burglary after the trio allegedly attempted to escape authorities in an early morning drama.

Police were alerted to the incident at about 1am on Sunday, and say they saw a vehicle of interest a short time later.

Officers allege the vehicle attempted to evade police, and crashed on Nook Rd at Sheffield.

Three people were taken into custody at the crash scene, while one occupant was also treated for minor injuries as a result of the crash.

Police said a shotgun was located and seized following a search of the vehicle.

A host of charges, including burglary, have been laid against the three people: a 29-year-old Wynyard man; a 36-year-old Ulverstone man; and a 39-year-old Penguin woman.

All three will appear in the Devonport Magistrates Court later today.

Police believe there is a fourth offender in relation to the burglary and are making further inquiries.

Search for missing man continues into fourth day

There remains fear over the welfare of Clinton Ewington, who has been missing since lunchtime on Thursday, December 14.

Tasmania Police said the 45-year-old was last seen in Launceston wearing dark shorts, a dark hoodie and a black cap.

“If anyone has seen Clinton in the last few days or who knows where he, they are asked to phone police on 131 444 – quote reference ESCAD: 165-17122023,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said on Monday.

Police will be assisted by SES members to search for the man in bushland areas, and residential yards that back onto bushland areas, in the West Launceston area.

He has been described as being of caucasian appearance, 185cm tall with a slim build and brown hair.
