Police sadly confirmed a 77-year-old man died in a fire in the north of the state on Monday afternoon. The latest.

Police have confirmed an elderly man died in a fire at Tarleton on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services responded to reports of a vegetation fire on Henslowe St, in the state’s North, just before 3.45pm.

Officers said sadly, a body was located near the fire.

“A formal identification has yet to be conducted but it is believed to be a 77-year-old man who lived at the residence,” a police spokesperson said.

“Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased.”

The fire has since been contained and a fire scene examination is set to be conducted to determine the cause of the blaze.

Police say a formal identification of the deceased will be conducted and a report prepared for the coroner.
