Plans for a 109-lot subdivision in Brighton are close to being ready for homes to be built, all that’s needed is approval from the local council.
A development application for 33 Elderslie Road was recently lodged with the council, and is now available for public viewing.
The land is owned by Homes Tasmania, which hopes to sell most of the lots for the development of homes, once the subdivision is ready.
Under the subdivision plan, land would also be allocated for public open space, the creation of two new roads and two junctions.
At the moment, there is an existing home on one of the proposed lots, which will be retained.
The lot is located adjacent to the new Brighton High School site, which is still under construction.
It’s hoped the creation of the subdivision will provide aspiring homeowners with the opportunity to build a house.
Brighton Council general manager James Dryburgh said though the application had not yet been assessed, the prospect of more housing was welcome.
“Brighton Council is predicted to be the fastest growing municipality in Tasmania and it is exciting to see applications for much needed, well located supply coming online to accommodate this growth, and especially housing close to the growing employment generator – the Brighton Industrial Hub,” he said.
“This is another development that demonstrates that there is confidence in Brighton’s future, along with new Brighton High School, IGA supermarket, the new GP Clinic and multiple developments in the Industrial Hub.”
Mr Dryburgh said the proposal fit with the council’s masterplan for the area.
“The site is within a key growth precinct identified by council some years ago which is now adjacent to a new high school and a thriving township,” he said.
“Council’s talented planning department has been working proactively to get the right master planning and zonings in place for this precinct to help ensure that development can be strategic, high quality and that developers, such as Homes Tasmania in this case, can have confidence that there is a clear implemented strategy that they can follow.”
Some of the homes will be available to be purchased with Homes Tasmania’s shared equity program, which allows home buyers to purchase a property with assistance.
