INCREDIBLE AERIAL PICS OF THE FIRE DAMAGE
GREAT PINE TIER
The Great Pine Tier fire burned through more than 55,000 hectares of the Central Plateau after lightning strikes sparked blazes near Miena at the southern edge of Great Lake.
The first image was captured on January 13, just three days before the fires ignited. The second image shows the extent of the fire’s coverage in the space of only two weeks.
RIVEAUX ROAD
An image of the Riveaux Rd area taken on November 17, 2018, shows swathes of green across the lanscape.
A picture from January 29, 2019, shows a vastly different scene, with significant patches of burnt land and smoke and active bushfires still visible.
GELL RIVER
A massive fire scar from the Gell River blaze can be seen to the north of Lake Gordon in these comparison images from November 17, 2018 and January 29, 2019.
The images were rendered in a way to reflect light at near-infrared and shortwave infrared wavelengths, making them useful for highlighting the thermal energy left behind by burn scars.
