Police and ambulance services were called to the Hobart Speedway about 9.15pm Saturday night after a competitor was involved in a serious crash during the first lap of a race.

Police said the 34 year old driver was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious head and neck injuries.

He is in a serious but stable condition.

Police are continuing to investigate and workplace health and safety has been notified.

It’s the second such incident in as many weeks, with top Tasmanian sprintcar racer Adrian Redpath in a shocking accident sustained at Carrick Speedway during the Sprintcars State Title.
