SOME campgrounds and walking tracks that were closed because of fire risk have been re-opened.

SOME campgrounds and walking tracks that were closed because of fire risk have been reopened.

The Parks and Wildlife Service said it had reopened campgrounds and tracks on the Tasman Peninsula, at Freycinet National Park, and Douglas Apsley National Park.

Mount Field National Park remains closed today and will be reassessed Sunday.

The Hastings Caves and Thermal Pools will reopen Sunday at 9am.

The reopened campgrounds and tracks are:

Tasman Peninsula:

Wughalee Campground

Bare Knoll Campground

Old Cape Pillar Track

Waterfall Bay Tracks (including Canoe Bay, Bivouac Bay and Tasman Trail)

Crescent Bay Track

Mount Brown Track

Cape Raoul Track

Shipstern Bluff Track

Tunnel Bay Track

Freycinet National Park:

Wineglass Bay Lookout & Wineglass Beach

Mt Amos

Hazards Beach & peninsula walking tracks

Isthmus Track

Douglas Apsley National Park

Douglas Apsley Gorge Track

Leeaberra Track

The Parks and Wildlife Service is still assessing the Echo Sugarloaf Track in the Echo Sugarloaf State Reserve, the Snug Falls, Pelverata Falls and Umfrevilles tracks in the Snug Tiers Nature Recreation Area, and the Esperance River campground and day visitor area in the Esperance River Conservation Area.

“As fires under hot, dry and windy conditions can travel very fast, it’s important for visitors to stay informed in case conditions change,” a Parks and Wildlife spokeswoman said.

“PWS would like to remind everyone that with the large amount of fires burning and the potential for spotting and new starts due to the weather forecast, we are asking people not to venture into remote areas from now until the end of the long weekend.”

A full list of track, area and campground closures is available from the Parks and Wildlife Service website.

The latest fire information is available from the Tasmania Fire Service website.
