Cold snap bringing snow to ACT, Tas

SNOW and ice have closed a road on Tasmania’s Central Plateau today — and more wintry weather is on the way.

Highland Lakes Rd is closed between Golden and Haulage Hill, Tasmania Police said this afternoon.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s Debbie Tabor said the snow line dropped to 700m in Tasmania’s West and South this morning, but would lift during this afternoon and this evening.

“It looks like it will be 700m in the South tomorrow morning and then getting to around 600m tomorrow evening in southern, western, and central areas, and then to 500m on Wednesday,” Ms Tabor said.

Hobart is predicted to reach a top of 12C with a shower or two today, 11C with showers and possible small hail tomorrow, and 10C with showers on Wednesday.
