Tasmania Police has received a report of a shark sighting about 200m offshore at the southern end of Spring Beach in Orford.

A cray pot fisherman this morning told police the shark was about 3m long but the species was not known.

Beachgoers engaging in water activities in the area have been asked to exercise caution.
