UPDATED: A fatal road accident in Tasmania’s North-West overnight is being investigated by Tasmania Police.

Police said a 31-year-old man from East Devonport died from injuries sustained when his vehicle left the road at Wesley Vale and hit a tree at 3am.

Police said the man was driving a white Toyota Camry sedan towards Devonport on Port Sorell Rd at Wesley Vale when he failed to negotiate a turn and hit a tree on the side of the road.

Police, Ambulance Tasmania and Tasmania Fire Service crews responded to the crash, with the road closed for five hours.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash and urge anyone with information to contact

EARLIER: POLICE are attending the scene of a serious single-vehicle crash in Tasmania’s North this morning.

Devonport police officers are on the scene of the crash on Port Sorell Rd at Wesley Vale.

The crash was reported to police at 3.14am.

Police said Port Sorell Rd at Wesley Vale will be closed for a number of hours, with traffic to be diverted through Northdown.

Members of the public are asked to avoid the area if possible.
