UPDATE: The family of a little boy who went missing overnight in northern Tasmania is “overwhelmed with joy” after he was found this morning.
In a short statement issued at 8.20am, Tasmania Police said Robert (Bob) Wright was located a short time ago.
The seven-year-old, who has autism and is non-verbal, went missing yesterday evening near his home at Lebrina.
His disappearance sparked an extensive search involving police and about 30 volunteers, including State Emergency Service members.
An aerial search this morning by the Westpac Rescue helicopter spotted items of clothing believed to belong to Bob.
“A search team of SES members attended the area the clothing items were sighted and located Bob nearby uninjured,” police said in a statement.
Sergeant Michael Gillies has thanked all involved in finding Bob and the many other people who offered support and assistance.
Tasmania Police has released happy snaps of Bob with his rescuers after he was reunited with his family.
EARLIER: The search has resumed this morning for a boy with autism who went missing from his home in northern Tasmania.
Tasmania Police today released an image of Robert (Bob) Wright.
The seven-year-old was last seen before nightfall near his home in the town of Lebrina, northeast of Launceston.
Late last night, Launceston Sergeant Gavin Chugg said police had launched a search for the child with help from locals and SES volunteers.
Sgt Chugg appealed for anyone in the Lebrina area who may have seen the child to contact police.
The boy is autistic and non-verbal.
Robert has long hair and was last seen wearing a grey long-sleeved top, and fluoro green shorts.
A police spokesman said the search, which started last night, resumed early early this morning.
