Rumours are circulating Aldi is eyeing off a Hobart location in what would be massive news for Tasmanian lovers of the supermarket giant.
Tasmania and the Northern Territory remain the only state or territory in Australia without a store from the German founded store.
Whispers around town have recently suggested the supermarket has been eyeing off a site in Glenorchy.
There’s currently 15 Woolworths’ and eight Coles’ in Hobart and surrounding areas, with the addition of an Aldi to provide welcome competition.
Aldi first came to Australia in 2001 and have since opened more than 570 stores across the country, with over 13,500 staff on their books.
A spokesman for Aldi hosed down speculation a store may be opening.
“We will always consider the feasibility of new locations however at this stage, Aldi has no plans to open stores in Hobart.”
