SUSAN Molnar started to pray when she saw the dogs approach her.

The Primrose Sands woman says she is “living in terror” after her small dog was “brutally mauled” by two dogs at the popular walking beach on Sunday – and it’s not the first time she has been set upon.

Ms Molnar was taking her 10-year-old Cairn Terrier Hamish and her 11-year-old miniature Schnauzer Thomas for a walk along the beach at Primrose Sands when she spotted two larger dogs running toward her.

“I quickly put my dogs on short leashes behind my heels. I then grabbed my iPhone and started recording the approaching dogs, praying that they would not attack us,” she said.

“They (the dogs) immediately targeted Hamish and attacked as a team.

“He was brutally mauled by the bigger of the two while the second dog joined in. The dogs kept circling us and attacking Hamish from every direction and despite Hamish exhibiting submission the whirlwind attack continued.”

Ms Molnar said “after multiple rounds” the dogs ran away before she called the police and council.

Hamish was rushed to an emergency vet, where the “shocked” dog underwent surgery for three large punctures, Ms Molnar says.

“He has extensive bruising, swelling and tenderness and will need to be monitored for bacterial infection as a result of his wounds.”

In a shocking video provided to The Mercury, Ms Molnar’s screams for help can be heard as the dogs launch their attack.

“I’m living in terror. It was scary for me and I’m over six feet tall,” Ms Molnar said.

“I fought with everything I have in my body to save Hamish. I was literally fighting for my dog’s life.”

Ms Molnar said her dogs were her “whole world” and she hated seeing “my little boys get hurt.”

“We’ve travelled with them and they mean everything to us.”

Ms Molnar said on September 21 last year she had a similar encounter, where two different dogs were “hunting in the dunes”.

“I’ve been attacked at least five times, and have narrowly avoided two other attacks,” she said.

Ms Molnar said on Thursday her two dogs “were in stoic and good spirits despite this brutal mauling”.

A Sorell Council spokesperson said they were taking the matter seriously.

“Sorell Council takes dog attacks very seriously. Hence, the dog involved in this particular incident was seized,” the spokesperson said.

“The matter is currently under investigation by council officers. There has been no police involvement, as Council is responsible for administering and enforcing the Dog Control Act.”
