THE State Government has announced a $5 million second round of its popular travel vouchers.

Premier Peter Gutwein told parliament the $7 million first round of the program had been such a success that the government was keen to repeat the deal to boost the travel industry.

The government announced the travel voucher last month — up to $100 to use for accommodation or up to $50 to use on a tourism experience.

The first round was fully subscribed within an hour of being released earlier this month.

“I am very pleased today to announce the government will be providing another $5 million for a second release of the Make Yourself at Home travel vouchers,” Mr Gutwein told parliament.

Mr Gutwein said the vouchers would be made available from 7pm next Wednesday, September 30 for travel from that date.

He said people would be able to register either via the internet or by phone.

Mr Gutwein said of the 21,000 vouchers released, around 800 had already been lodged for redemption and hospitality and tourism operators were reporting noticeable upticks in bookings.

“The early feedback from businesses has been very positive,” he said.
