Premier accuses opposition of flip-flopping over borders

PREMIER Peter Gutwein has accused the Opposition of flip-flopping over COVID-restrictions.

In state parliament this morning, Labor leader Rebecca White said the government was not properly managing the arrival of essential workers from Victoria.

Ms White said that for the protection of the community, there was a need to test and then quarantine all interstate workers until the results are known.

“If you are concerned about as you said fear in the Tasmania community why do you continue to justify allowing Victorian workers to walk off a plane and onto a worksite without being tested?” she asked.

Mr Gutwein said there had been 11 workers enter the state from Victoria in recent times — and accused Labor of playing politics with the pandemic.

“It’s about politics with you, that’s what it’s about,” he said.

“What we have seen with this leader of the opposition, she has flip-flopped from open the borders to shut the borders. She has not had one firm position about this. It’s extraordinary.

“We will continue to take advice form the experts – not from you.

“We have followed public health advice and it has stood this state in good stead.”
