TASMANIA Police has advised the State Government it has not found any grounds to back an investigation into Health Minister Michael Ferguson’s role in the sacking of a Cricket Australia official.

Last week, Labor asked police to investigate whether Mr Ferguson broke the law by revealing Hobart woman Angela Williamson’s private medical information.

Opposition Leader Rebecca White then formally asked Premier Will Hodgman to conduct a ministerial code of conduct investigation into the allegations.

LABOR REFERS HEALTH MINISTER TO POLICE

LABOR PARTY CALLS FOR CODE OF CONDUCT INQUIRY

Ms Williamson is seeking reinstatement and a six-figure compensation payout from cricket’s governing body, alleging she was fired for campaigning on social media for abortion reform.

In a brief statement, Premier Will Hodgman said he had received advice from the Police Commissioner in relation to a referral made by Denison MP Ella Haddad regarding Mr Ferguson.

“The Commissioner advises that having reviewed the referral by Ms Haddad, Tasmania Police has not identified any grounds for an investigation,” Mr Hodgman said.

“The Labor Party should now cease baseless claims in relation to this matter.”

LABOR RENEWS CALL FOR INVESTIGATION INTO MINISTER

Mr Hodgman did not say if any internal code of conduct investigation would be carried out.

Ms Haddad said Mr Ferguson had failed to answer a simple question in the 18 days since Ms Williamson alleged he was involved: Did he discuss or disclose private medical information with Ms Angela Williamson’s employer?

“The Premier himself has said there are multiple avenues that could be used to get to the truth. Labor will continue to demand an independent investigation,” Ms Haddad said.
