THEY are man’s best friend — cute, cuddly, loyal, and an essential member of many families.

Nina Cumper, of Hobart, has had her labrador Nellie for 10 years.

“She’s mischievous, 100 per cent,” Ms Cumper said.

“She always sleeps in the middle of the bed at night and leaves me with no room. And I can’t move her otherwise I’d wake her up.”

Despite that minor indiscretion, Ms Cumper said she loves the company the canine provides.

And her advice for anyone thinking about getting a dog of their own?

“Do it — but be prepared,” Ms Cumper said.
