OPPONENTS of a Clarence golf course development have lost their appeal at the planning tribunal.

Friends of the Arm joined an appeal from two locals against the Arm End project being planned for Opossum Bay by Barnbougle course developer Greg Ramsay.

Anthony and Karen Puckering claimed a shed and cafe in revised plans for the course were too intrusive. The original notice of appeal claimed “industrial” buildings would be better placed elsewhere on the course where they would be less obstructive to nearby residents.

The Resource Management and Planning Appeal Tribunal has dismissed all grounds of appeal, but did add a condition requiring the cafe to close each day at 10.30pm.

Last year the project was re-approved by the Clarence City Council in a 9-1 vote, after attracting 11 objections. The original application, approved in 2012, attracted 18 objections.

Project director Craig Ferguson said changes to the plans had been made based on community consultation. They included relocating the cafe and repositioning a maintenance building and car park.
