Dunalley woman, 52, killed and two injured after Arthur Highway crash

A Dunalley local has died and two others have been taken to hospital after a two-car crash on Saturday evening.

A 52-year-old Dunalley woman died in a two-car crash near Copping on Saturday afternoon, police said.

Two people were injured in the crash and were taken to hospital where they were in a stable condition.

“The crash occurred at approximately 5:50pm when the driver of a 2011 black Volkswagen station wagon lost control on a sweeping left-hand bend on a section of the Arthur Highway known as ‘Red Hill’,” police said in a statement.

“The Volkswagen was being driven by a 29-year-old female from Tranmere who had a three-year-old passenger at the time.

“As the vehicle lost control it crossed to the incorrect side of the highway and collided head on with a northbound 2014 silver Hyundai hatch.

“The Hyundai was being driven by a 25-year-old female from Dunalley who had one front seat passenger in the vehicle.

“As a result of the collision the female passenger in the Hyundai died at the scene.

“The two drivers were conveyed to hospital and are in a stable condition. The three-year-old was uninjured.”

Police, Ambulance Tasmania, TFS and SES all attended the crash and Arthur Highway crash was closed for approximately six hours while investigations took place.

Alcohol or drugs were not suspected to be to blame for the crash.

And the driver of a Corolla sedan was hospitalised after a crash with a Mack truck on the Midland highway at Bagdad at 4.10pm on Saturday. Two people travelling in the truck wee not hurt.

Inattention was believed to have contributed to the crash, Acting Sergeant Adam Hall said.

“This was a big impact collision and the driver of the Toyota is extremely luckily to be alive. Road users are reminded to pay attention while behind the wheel of a motor vehicle and to drive to the conditions” he said.

The Highway was reduced to one lane for two hours after the crash.

The crash comes after three people, including a little girl, were killed in a Midlands Highway crash on Friday.
