ONE of New South Wales’ most notorious killers has been refused permission to settle in Tasmania if he is granted parole.

Matthew De Gruchy was 18 years old when he bludgeoned his mother, sister and brother to death at Albion Park Rail, on the NSW South Coast in 1996. The NSW Parole Authority has indicated he is being considered for release on parole as soon as next week after serving 23 years behind bars.

The 43-year-old has expressed a desire to live with his father, a pensioner who now lives in Tasmania.

But a Department of Justice spokesman said the application had been rejected.

De Gruchy bashed his mother Jennifer, 41, sister Sarah, 13, and brother Adrian, 15, to death in their Illawarra home in March 1996.

De Gruchy’s 28-year maximum sentence does not expire until June 2024 but he is eligible for release on parole in a week.
