The developers behind a $75m Tasmanian retirement resort for the over-50s have distanced themselves from a company that went into administration.

Work has begun on the Noble Life 9.5ha development at New Norfolk which includes 186 houses in a gated-community and boasts five-star amenities including a private clubhouse with a cinema, library, sports lounge, heated indoor pool, sauna, massage rooms, yoga studio and gym.

In a letter being sent to New Norfolk residents, directors Daniel Noble and Roger Noble say they want to “clear up some of the speculation surrounding The Mills development” and Queensland investment firm ISG Funds Management which went into administration last year.

“To the best of our knowledge, everyone who bought a house or land package at The Mills received what they paid for or got their money back,” they wrote.

“However, we also know that there are people or businesses, like us, who are left out of pocket by The Mills.”

Daniel Noble said the resort was back on track after suffering a “really devastating” set-back when The Mills went into administration.

“Like many locals, we are one of the many unsecured creditors who lost money, so we really do understand that pain,” he said.

“But for us, the most devastating part is the thought that locals might put us in the same bucket as them – we are not The Mills, we’re Noble Life, and we pride ourselves on our long and proud history of delivering what we promise to our communities.”

Mr Noble said his family were continuing their late father Keith’s legacy who had built retirement resorts on green-field sites in places in Queensland and New South Wales including Hervey Bay, Kingscliff and Rockhampton.

“We share our late father’s passion for creating beautiful communities from the ground up,” Mr Noble said.

Stage One of the New Norfolk resort includes 26 two and three bedroom homes.

“The project will create hundreds of local jobs, and inject tens of millions of dollars into the local community,” Mr Noble said.

“We’re really proud to see the local tradies, young apprentices and surrounding businesses, suppliers, and shops benefiting from this major construction project too.”

Stage One is set to be finished by September next year.

Derwent Valley mayor Michelle Dracoulis welcomed the investment at New Norfolk.

“I look forward to seeing an expansion of retirement options for those from the Valley and beyond,” she said.
