A Hobart pub is hoping puppy love can help raise the city’s spirits this winter, when the inaugural Bark Mofo festival kicks off at Fern Tree.
With the capital facing its first winter in more than a decade without the traditional Dark Mofo cultural festival, Fern Tree Tavern licensee Leanne Minshull decided an alternative celebration featuring four-legged friends would help warm hearts during the big chill.
“My husband Dave loves puns, and I told him that’s a good idea, I’m actually going to start a Bark Mofo event,” Ms Minshull said.
“But we’ve always been a very dog-friendly pub.
“There will be several award categories, including worst-behaved dog, dogs and owners who look most alike, best-dressed dog, as well as a sprint race in the car park.
“We are also hosting an art show featuring dog-themed work, which can be anything from paintings to a photograph.
“Everyone is welcome to come on the day, when we will be handing out all the awards.”
Dog owners can register canine participants through the Fern Tree Tavern’s Facebook page, while artworks can be dropped at the bar from Wednesdays to Sundays leading up to the event.
Bark Mofo will run from 3.00pm to 5.30pm on Saturday, 22 June.
