A pig, given a second chance at life at Brightside Farm Sanctuary, has reached celebrity status on the farm, after making a cameo in two Tasmanian television series.

Ned the pig has scored roles in both Rosehaven and more recently he guest starred in Bay of Fires.

“His first role was in Rosehaven, basically they contacted us asking if we had any pigs they could use,” Animal carer Louise Callanan said.

“He was one our friendly ones, he was trained to walk on a lead and do what we needed, he was perfect.

“He loves people and if you have a little treat for him, he’s happy to chat along with you.”

There are around 40 pigs living at the farm sanctuary, but Ms Callanan said there was something special about the fame-hog.

“He has a very cute face and he’s very outgoing,” she said.

“He’s very talkative and makes the classic pig noises, he’s such a character and everyone loves him.”

But Ned hasn’t always lived the glamorous life of a film star; before he took up residence at Brightside, things were different.

“He was given to us by police, he was abandoned by his previous owner, he was left in a small dog crate in a carport, it was filthy and there was faeces everywhere,” Ms Callanan said.

“Police found him and brought him to us … He’s a lucky pig and we’re lucky to have him”

“[The pigs on the farm] live in a 10 acre paddock with a big dam, they free roam and run around, they all love it and they are fortunate pigs compared to what a lot of pigs go through.”

Ms Callanan said Ned was ready to put his hoofs up for any other roles which may come his way.
