THE state’s telecommunications capabilities have ramped up with more than 40 Tasmanian towns now receiving some 5G coverage.
Telstra regional general manager Michael Patterson yesterday said 44 suburbs across Hobart and Launceston were more than half-covered by the new mobile technology, with some places accessing it across the whole suburb.
“2020 is going to be the year of 5G, and our focus is on continuing to expand our 5G coverage so we can bring it to more areas across Hobart and Launceston,” he said.
Mr Patterson said 5G was delivering faster download speeds and lower latency.
