More than 100 apartments get green light

MORE than 100 apartments have been given the green light by Hobart City Council. The council has voted in favour of two developments that will boost housing stocks now at crisis level in Hobart.

MORE than 100 apartments were given the green light by Hobart City Council last night.

The council voted in favour of two multi-storey developments that will boost housing stocks now at crisis level in Hobart.

A four-storey residential and visitor accommodation block at 66 Burnett St was passed unanimously.

It includes 70 apartments, down from 89 in the original application, with a building height of 14m.

The ground floor contains a commercial tenancy intended for use as a cafe, bar or restaurant.

The second development application for a 30m, 10-storey residential apartment block at 125 Bathurst St was approved by 10 votes to two.

It will deliver three three-bedroom and 14 two-bedroom apartments and 16 one-bedroom flats, with two retail spaces on the ground floor.

The new development aimed to achieve an average price well below the current Hobart median house price, Qapital Investments director Quinten Villanueva said.
