TIM Lawrence’s mates will keep on surfing Tasmania’s best waves in memory of their friend, who died tragically over the weekend.

The Dodges Ferry man, 32, died early on Sunday morning following a jet ski accident while on a camping trip at Little Chinaman’s Bay, south of Marion Bay.

Investigations indicated he had left the campsite to transport two friends to Marion Bay before colliding with a navigation beacon on the journey back.

A crowd-funding page set up to help Mr Lawrence’s family has raised $14,000 since it was set up on Sunday.

His close friend of more than 15 years, Tyler Hollmer-Cross, said he met Mr Lawrence at Rosny College and described him as an avid surfer, snowboarder, fisherman and camper.

“He was always up for an adventure,” Mr Hollmer-Cross said.

“He always loved getting up early for a surf before daylight and making the most of Tasmania.”

Mr Hollmer-Cross said Mr Lawrence’s favourite surfing spots were Marion Bay, South East Cape and Southport.

“He had been surfing since three or four years old ... but he never boasted,” he said.

“No one had a bad thing to say about him. He’s going to be remembered as a really great person who’s done all sorts of really great things.

“I’m just going to keep doing what he’s been doing and surf.”

Mr Lawrence’s partner Katelyn Williams thanked everyone for their support on Facebook.

“Everyone has been incredible,” she wrote.

“I don’t know what I’ll do now, tomorrow or in a month’s time but I know he will always be beside me each step of the way. My soulmate for eternity.”

A gathering for Tim will be held at the Clifton Beach Surf Lifesaving Club on Friday.
