Serious crash, Lake Leake Rd

Monday 4pm

A man has been airlifted to hospital in a serious condition following a head on crash between two utes on Lake Road at Lake Leake this afternoon.

Tasmania Police, Ambulance Tasmania, Tasmania Fire Service and SES crews were called to the scene around 4pm to find that a white Toyota Hilux that was travelling south had collided head on with a grey Toyota Hilux travelling in the opposite direction.

A 27-year-old man from Ross who was driving the white ute had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews before being flown to the Royal Hobart Hospital by chopper in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the grey ute, a 45-year-old man from Southen Tasmania, was assessed at the scene and sustained no injuries.

Tasmania Police are investigating the incident and are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash cam footage to contact police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800333000 or crimestopperstas.com.au.

L-plater motorcyclist busted for speeding, Westbury

Monday 12:30pm

A learner motorbike rider has been disqualified from driving for at least four months after he was detected speeding on the Bass Highway at Westbury on Sunday night.

Tasmania Police and members from the northern Road Safety Task Force intercepted the 20-year-old riding a Kawasaki after he was caught travelling at 129km/h in a 110km/h zone.

The learner rider who was restricted to a maximum speed limit of 80km/h was travelling at 49km/h over the limit.

The young man from Miandetta was issued a $994.75 fine, lost six demerit points and was disqualified from riding for four months.

In light of the incident Tasmania Police have made fresh calls for drivers to slow down and obey all speed limits as officers continue to conduct hi-visibility patrols on highways and local main roads.

There’s been 14 fatal crashes on Tasmanian roads this year.

Serious bus crash, Blackmans Bay

Monday 11am

Police and emergency services are on the scene of a serious crash involving a truck at Hillside Dr, Blackmans Bay.

One person is reportedly receiving medical treatment at the scene.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area until the scene is clear.

Stabbing, Glenorchy Bus Mall

Update - Sunday 3:30pm:

A 17-year-old boy has been taken into custody following a stabbing at the Glenorchy Bus Mall on Sunday afternoon.

Tasmania Police said they were called to the incident around 1:40pm following reports of a large disturbance involving around 20 people.

The injured man was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries to his stomach.

Police remain at the scene investigating.

1:40pm Sunday, April 10:

A male has been stabbed in his stomach area, with emergency services on the scene at a bus mall this weekend.

Tasmania Police responded to “a report of a large disturbance” about 1.40pm Sunday at Glenorchy Bus Mall.

“A male person has sustained a stab wound to his abdomen,” police said. “Emergency services are still at the scene.

“The victim is reported to be in a serious but stable condition.”

Tasmania Police said the incident was isolated and there is no risk to the public.

The Glenorchy Bus Mall has been closed at both ends while officers investigate at the scene.

Drivers and pedestrians are being asked to avoid the area with traffic diverted via Barry Street and Peltro Street to access Main Road, Glenorchy or use King George 5th Avenue.

Police are appealing for witnesses to call 131 444 and quote job number 158.

Car crashes into power pole, St Helens

An elderly couple are in hospital after their car hit a power pole at St Helens on Tasmania’s east coast this morning.

Police said the accident happened about 11.45am outside the Bayside Inn in St Helens.

A police spokesman said the 85 male driver and his 83 year old passenger were taken to the

St Helens District Hospital.

“Initial enquiries suggest the driver may have suffered a medical episode,” the spokesman

said.

“Any witnesses or motorists with dashcam footage are asked to contact Police on

131444 and quote job number 121.”
