A man has died after a diving incident at St Helens on Tasmania’s East Coast.
Police say they were alerted to a diver in difficulty near St Helens Island about 8.30am.
Police and emergency services, including the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, were called to the scene about 8.30am following a report of a diver in difficulty.
Inspector Michael Johnston said that the rescue helicopter and a St Helens marine rescue boat, transporting a local doctor and paramedics, were first on scene.
He said they helped until emergency services arrived a short time later.
“Sadly, the man could not be revived,” Insp Johnston said.
“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.”
Insp Johnston said investigations into the incident were continuing.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
