A MAN has died during a night-time beach fishing trip in North-East Tasmania.

Police said the man died on Saturday at about 10.45pm while fishing on the beach at Ansons Bay.

The man was fishing with his wife when he collapsed in shallow water. He was dragged to shore and attempts were made to resuscitate him by members of the public and Tasmania Ambulance Service, however he could not be revived.

The incident was attended by Tasmania Police and Ambulance Tasmania.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner but police said the death was not believed to be suspicious.
