Man, 50s, saved from high seas after boat marooned near Southport

While many motorists were caught out on Tasmanian roads on Tuesday evening, so too was an unfortunate boatie in waters off Southport.

Tasmania Police received a distress call at 8pm on Tuesday night.

The vessel, with one man on board, struck rocks south of Southport.

The vessel did not sink but was stuck on the semi-submerged rocks.

Tasmania Police said local vessels in the area were contacted to assist with the search.

A 55-year-old man was successfully located at Fishers Point, Cockle Creek where his boat was marooned.

Police said the man was found cold and wet but otherwise unharmed.

As for the stranded boat, that will be up to the owner to recover.

“Police are not involved in the recovery of the vessel, that is a matter for the owner,” a Tasmania Police spokesperson said.
