Ex-tourism boss Luke Martin will become the new face of the salmon industry in Tasmania.

Salmon Tasmania chair Lyall Howard announced Mr Martin would take on the top job on July 3, replacing Sue Grau, who lasted less than 18 months in the job.

Mr Martin, 39, will step down as head of the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania on June 30, after 12 years at the helm.

He said he was looking forward to his new gig with another flagship Tasmanian industry.

“Just like tourism, aquaculture is one of Tasmania’s competitive strengths, and we should be very proud of the industry that so many Tasmanians have built,” Mr Martin said.

“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to look at the industry with fresh eyes.”

Mr Howard said it was exciting to have someone of Mr Martin’s calibre to lead Salmon Tasmania, which is funded by the state’s three salmon companies: Tassal, Huon Aquaculture and Petuna Seafoods.

“Luke is a highly skilled industry leader and we are looking forward to working with him,” Mr Howard said.

“It is crucial that we have a strong voice as we work with government and the community to implement the recently released Tasmanian Salmon Industry Plan and that’s what Luke offers.”
