A NEW fringe festival is coming to town this weekend with 24 acts set to light up North Hobart.

Fringe at the Edge of the World features four nights of uncensored performing arts at the Polish Club, Republic Bar and Voodoo Bar from local, interstate and international entertainers.

Festival director Gillian English said people should expect an “interesting and eclectic program” with lots of wonderful acts.

“We have a really interesting mix of people who have been doing this for a very long time who are professional and a lot of people who are just venturing into the world of fringe performance for the very first time,” she said.

“The whole point of me starting the festival was to give local artists an opportunity to perform a festival-length show without having to go to the mainland. We also have some amazing award-winning shows that come from all over Australia.”

Ms English said among the acts were comedy, theatre and cabaret performance, including:

Chloe Black with Transistor Sister — “Being a Tassie local I’m proud to bring the show out here”.

Tara Leigh Dowler with Taranoia — “It’s a neuro-chemical cabaret and it’s entirely original music”.

Lizzie Donovan with Singin’ Through the Pain — “I’m excited about showcasing original songs for the first time about body-positive stuff”.

Jen Smith and Jane New in Half Baked — “We’re a local act, five fresh new comedians on the Tasmanian scene from a dirty granny down to a young whippersnapper”.

Jane Hamilton-Foster with Five Flavours Vanilla — “It’s the five flavours of me and my journey from the education system into acting”.

The festival runs January 3-6. Tickets available at the door or fringeattheedgeof theworld.com.au.
