Liverpool Kebabs: New Hobart takeaway serving traditional food

The couple behind a new Hobart takeaway shop has revealed they still take inspiration from their mentor, a fellow chef who died in the horrific Turkish earthquake last month.

WHAT began as a visit on their honeymoon 20 years ago, has now transpired into a permanent move to Tasmania and a popular new restaurant.

Seher and Murat Akyuz made the move from Sydney four years ago, operating the popular dessert stall Lokmanca in Salamanca Markets.

Following its success, the pair are now co-managers of Liverpool Kebabs, the new Turkish takeaway taking the CBD by storm.

Since its launch last month, the restaurant has amassed a swag of five-star reviews on Google and repeat customers.

“We’re very proud of that actually, because we don’t know any of the people and everyone comes back,” Mrs Akyuz said.

“Our aim is to bring Hobart a real tasty, satisfying and filling Turkish cuisine alternative.”

Produce is locally sourced and dishes made using authentic Turkish spices and recipes – something the couple learnt from fellow chef and mentor Can Pahali, who tragically lost his life in the earthquake in February.

“He taught us what to do, taste, flavour, and attention to detail, we would always call him for support,” Mrs Akyuz said.

“We will never forget his attention to detail and wise words,” the couple said.
