Public Health has released a list of venues a health worker visited in Tasmania before flying to London and testing positive to Covid.

The person tested negative to Covid prior to leaving Tasmania on Friday July 2, but returned a positive result two days after their departure after travelling through Melbourne and Singapore.

“While there is no evidence that this person contracted COVID-19 while they were in Tasmania, or was infectious while they were in Tasmania, Public Health Services is taking a precautionary approach to ensure there is no risk to the Tasmanian community.” Public Health said in a statement.

Anyone who has visited the below exposure sites is classified as a ‘casual contact’ - they must isolate immediately, call the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738 to arrange a COVID-19 test, and continue to isolate until you receive a negative result.

Independent Launceston MLC Rosemary Armitage has urged residents of the Northern city to self-isolate if they have been at any of the exposure sites listed by Public Health, after a health worker who visited Tasmania tested positive for Covid-19 in London.

“It’s important to actually take the advice of the Public Health (director),” Ms Armitage said.

“We’ve been very lucky in Tasmania and … it’s more likely that (the person) picked up Covid when they left Tasmania, but there’s a small chance they didn’t. And I think people might regret if they discover that they actually have picked it up if they don’t self-isolate. It’s not very nice to have to do it but we’ve been very lucky.

“It’s all about doing the right thing … for ourselves and for our community.”
