Three Hobart Bakers Delight stores will immediately close their doors after their owner placed the businesses into voluntary liquidation.
The franchisee behind the Lindisfarne, Eastlands and Kingston bakeries have been placed into voluntary liquidation.
A Bakers Delight spokesman told The Mercury that trading would temporarily cease immediately.
It is understood staff were only told Wednesday morning.
“While we are still trying to confirm the details, we understand the closure affects 70-80 casual and permanent employees,” the spokesman said.
“We will now be working closely with the liquidator to ensure employees, suppliers and other stakeholders are informed and supported as much as possible.”
The spokesman said the temporary closure of the bakeries would not impact other stores.
“We look forward to seeing the bakeries open for business again as soon as possible,” they said.
The franchisee has been contacted for comment.
