THE team behind one of Hobart’s most popular markets has thanked their supporters for helping them continue through the pandemic period.

Farm Gate Market founder and owner Madi Peattie said she was “stoked” for the Bathurst St market to be given the go ahead by Premier Peter Gutwein.

She said the market did not have permission to trade over Easter Sunday due to “concerns about community movement” but would resume its weekly operations at 8.30am on Sunday, April 19.

“Farm Gate Market (will) proceed in line with the measures we have implemented to ensure the safety of our community,” she said.

Some measures included setting up hand washing and sanitiser stations, practising social distancing and removing all tasting samples from stalls.

“The City of Hobart threw their support behind the continuation of this market and so an enormous thank you must go out to them,” she said.

She said the team was “inundated” with emails sent to Mr Gutwein from “fabulous” supporters who depended on the market for their essential shopping.

“After a few disheartening weeks, (it) sure lifted the spirits of everyone here,” she said.
