A VETERAN presenter has been announced as the interim Seven Tasmania Nightly News anchor.

In a statement on Monday, Southern Cross Austereo announced Peter ‘Murph’ Murphy will step into the following Jo Palmer’s decision to step down after an 18-year career in the role. Palmer hosted her final bulletin on Friday.

Murphy, who has been a member of SCA’s news presentation team since 1984, is contracted to host the Nightly News on Seven Tasmania until April.

SCA news director Grant Wilson described Murphy as “a true professional”, who had “graciously agreed to step into the role to allow us to search for a permanent news anchor”. “It’s great to have an accustomed hand on the reigns and, importantly, he provides a strong level of familiarity to our loyal viewers,” he said.

Rachel Williams will continue to host the weekend news bulletins.
