An independent review into Tasmania’s finances – including the Macquarie Point stadium – was part of a suite of measures agreed to by the Liberals to secure backing from JLN MPs Miriam Beswick, Andrew Jenner, and Rebekah Pentland.

A JLN spokesman said through securing the deal, both parties demonstrated a willingness to “overcome obstacles and a shared commitment to accountability and transparency”.

“The independent review of the state’s finances is a cornerstone of the Confidence and Supply Agreement between the two parties,” the JLN spokesman said.

“With a renewed spirit of goodwill and a commitment to collaboration, the Terms of Reference for conducting the independent review have now been agreed.

“This collaborative effort and groundbreaking agreement is a significant step forward in achieving transparency and accountability for the state.”

Australian economist Saul Eslake is set to conduct the independent review, which is anticipated to be completed in August 2024.

Included in the review is the “financial modelling” needed to develop the proposed Hobart AFL stadium, which will be undertaken by Australian economist, Dr Nicholas Gruen.

A Liberal government spokesman said the party welcomed the finalisation of details of the independent review of the state’s finances.

“We have worked collaboratively and in good faith with Jacqui Lambie Network MPs to establish the review and thank them for their constructive input,” the Liberal government spokesman said.
