SIX million dollars will be poured into Glenorchy’s YMCA to give the centre a “once in a generation upgrade”.
Independent MP Andrew Wilkie announced the Federal Government will foot the bill for the three-stage development that will include an indoor skate park, an indoor sports arena, and change room upgrades.
A new reception will also be included as well as a commercial kitchen and cafe, a classroom and spectator viewing platform.
“This is a game-changer for the northern suburbs,” Mr Wilkie said.
“I’m delighted that the Federal Government will contribute $6 million to fully fund this once-in-a-generation upgrade.
“The YMCA is already a fantastic asset for the city of Glenorchy.”
The YMCA revamp brings the total federal investment in the Glenorchy KGV precinct to nearly $16 million, which includes the demolition of the Glenorchy Football Club building and construction of a all-weather soccer pitch.
