ORGANISATIONS have rallied behind calls for Tasmanians to show the AFL what we’re made of this Saturday at Blundstone Arena.

Helping our quest to show the AFL bigwigs just how much Tasmania wants its own state team, tourism industry boss Luke Martin said his organisation would give a cracking prize to the biggest fan on Saturday.

A family of two adults and two children, who attend the game, could win “I’d Take a Tassie Winter Getaway Over the Goldie Any Day” package, which includes accommodation on the West Coast and Cradle Mountain plus passes to some of the state’s best attractions.

A family pass to Devils @ Cradle is among the bumper prize pool.

“The Premier has issued a call to arms for all Tasmanians to send another clear message to the AFL,” Mr Martin said.

“Last week’s match in Launceston showed what’s possible with a team we can all get behind, that will generate local blockbusters against the big AFL clubs.

“I have no doubt the first ever Tasmania versus Collingwood match will be the single biggest event Tasmania has ever hosted in terms of attendance and media interest, and with a team of our own, that’s what we could look forward to multiple times a year, every year.

“But do achieve this we must continue to build on the current momentum, which means showing up this week.

In a dig at Gold Coast Suns boss Tony Cochrane, Mr Martin said the prize on offer was unashamedly Tasmanian.

“We also know any patriotic Tasmanian family would much rather spend their July school holidays experiencing beautiful Tassie, then stuck on the boring Gold Coast.”

Federal Group has also jumped on board offering 10 one night stays in a Deluxe Resort room at Country Club Tasmania for Mercury readers.
