The Huon Valley has received an “incredible recognition,” included in global mass media brand Condé Nast Traveler’s 2024 list of best places to go in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.

Huon Valley Council economic development manager Michelle Gledhill said being included in the list was an honour.

“As an industry, tourism here has had its ups and downs,” Ms Gledhill said.

“We had the bushfires back here in 2019, but the industry has bound together and supported one another.”

Ms Gledhill said the region was a special place.

“It’s a microcosm of everything Tasmania has to offer. It’s got such diverse offerings,” she said.

“We’ve got very authentic rural experiences, as well as the beauty of natural landscapes and world heritage wilderness right on our doorstep.

“We’ve got our food, wine and beverage sector as well.

“We really do have a bit of everything, all within a very unique place at the very southern point of Tasmania.”

Tourism Tasmania CEO Sarah Clark said the Huon Valley had the things that made the state attractive to visitors.

“With boutique award-winning food, ciders and wine to walks in World Heritage Areas, underground dolomite caves, pools fed by mineral-rich thermal springs and the iconic Tahune Airwalk, we’re not surprised that the Huon Valley has made the list of best places to travel in 2024,” she said.

Liberal Member for Franklin Nic Street said he was delighted to see the region “recognised by such an influential voice” like Condé Nast Traveler.
